5 tips for maximizing conversation on facebook

  1. Post right before peak usage times. Wednesday Morning between 8-10am leads into the largest peak of the week. Tuesday during the same time is second, Thursday is third.
  2. Healthy Controversy. Post something that you believe your audience will have varied opinions on. Strong enough to encourage talk, but not so strong as bring out their vitriol. This is guessing game of course, but one worth a few minutes of consideration. Current events, good deeds, and cuteness are positive topics that tend to gain more traction on Facebook.
  3. Ringers. Have people agree to comment on your post and send them a notice right after it’s posted to get facebook to prioritize the post in followers newsfeed. Have a ringer set to follow-up the days after when there are lolls to keep the facebook priority high.
  4. Post Directly to Facebook. Third party posts are second class citizens on Facebook. Even though tools like Hootsuite are great in and of themselves, Facebook will penalize you if you post with them.
  5. Multimedia. Facebook gives preference to posts with images, videos, and links. If your post is text heavy, consider writing it on an image and posting that instead. Commenting with multimedia links is also helpful.
